We at Brussels Airlines are passionate about Africa and this continent holds a special place in our hearts. That’s why we want to give something back to the local communities. Through our b.foundation for Africa we give a helping hand to a number of NGOs and humanitarian projects that have the same passion for Africa as we do.
But we also had a dream!
A dream of bringing people together in a biking trip on this fascinating continent, having fun together and doing something good for the children of Africa!
From 11th to 16th November, a group of 60 Brussels Airlines people biked from Kigali (Rwanda) to Bujumbura (Burundi), a trip of 310 km through the “land of the 1.000 hills”.
Our goal was to raise 75,000 euro for SOS Children’s Villages in Africa, which counts for 10.000 medical consultations in one of the SOS Medical Centres throughout Africa. We reached in total 85,000 euro thanks to all participants which committed themselves to collect funds and thanks to the appreciated support of our sponsors.
The adventure started in the SOS Children’s Village of Kigali and ended 5 days later in the SOS Children’s Village of Bujumbura. Furthermore, the group brought goods to villages, clinics and projects along the way.
This biking experience in the heart of Africa was not only a lifetime experience for our bikers, support team, medical staff, sponsors,… but this trip made it also possible to bond people and to create new friendships !
